Ok, lets review this. I take Robert's feed for quite some time. He's on my 'A' list for Tech stuff on MSFT. However, its not just Tech stuff that Robert's medicine. Lets take a deeper dive into his panoramic blogging style.
First he blogs about Gays and sets the tone. Where he clearly articulates this "I don't know anything about it, or anything about how Microsoft decides to support political issues". Thats on Thursday the 21st.
Two days later, he releases the "Steve Ballmer wrote us all a note this afternoon about the anti-discrimination bill" post. This is on Sat, Apr 23 , late Afternoon 3.00PM post that makes it 6PM EDT. He wishes that PR will release the entire memo.
3 Hours later - Sat, Apr 23 2005 9:38 PM: He gets permission and release's the entire memo along with his own thoughts. Steve Ballmer's memo posted, my reply.
Sun, Apr 24 2005 1:28 AM : "My boss's boss responds to my earlier post about Ballmer's response
His fellow Assoicates support his stance Here and Here and his this was culled and posted by him on Sun, Apr 24 2005 1:49 PM.
Time to take a step back to see what his thoughts were in the first place. " I dont know anything about it". Yet, he creates good leverage across the Blog Sphere. Secondly, he continues the mission of damage control by creating rigour in PR. At least 5 posting on the same thread with 31 hours. (yes, do you own timing analysis to see the drift !!).
What I find interesting is that he began the discourse totally in the open on Thursday. Did anyone know that something was in the air ??
I really ask myself did he knew something was up and created his own damage control PR foo for MSFT ??? I mean, nothing wrong with that, he works for MSFT. He's done more for MSFT then what MSFT can do for themselves in terms of PR. Actually his job is not PR at MSFT, hes a tech evanglist. Yet, he sits on The Red Couch and continues doing PR stuff.
If you follow the whole communications and patterns he actually turns the whole thing around and makes himself good.
Now thats an Ace Blogger !! :)-
Anyhoot, I think this was a well crafted blog strategy to deal with "Crisis Managment" !! Just think, 2 days prior to Steve's internal memo being distributed, Rob's posts the opening move. 48 hr's later, all foo hits the fan. Ranking on Google, MSNSearch, Yahoo all move upwards towards the 'linkernet' of Robert. Traction is leveraged away from the true fact that -- Microsoft has a legislative agenda. That this bill wasn’t on it, and, as such, was then disowned by the company. Whewwwwww.. a good strategy regardless of what stance MSFT has and or Roberst thinks about descimination bill. In short, the deflection of the truth is what counts here !!
Hey Robert, whats your thoughts here.. come on ..be upfront and frank.. yeah I know that you still have the $1 bill that was endorsed by Steve !! :)-
