This morning I got an email title "Mike A is nuts" and with the in-line comment being "I definitely delete his feed now!". There was no explanations on the reasons, why the person dropped Mike A's feed.
However, given the fact that there is a lot of chatter on Mike, his credibility, methods and posts. I had to ask myself this question. Who is better in the tech arena ? Is it going to be Mike or OM ?
Is Mike losing his foothold and is Om moving into a niche market that nobody has quite yet really understood or envisioned ? If you have been following the stories events and chatter, you will certainly have some thoughts on my questions within the emerging patterns in the Silicon Valley !!
Both are good bloggers, but who will win loyalty of their readers ??
Any comments from my readers ?
I have seen these guys pop up from time to time, but haven't followed it closely - Mike does seem to attract his share of controversy, but probably by design. Valleywag seems to have it out for him, but everyone is fighting for eyeballs and ultimatelly dollars. If nothing else, it's cheap entertainment.

Agreed, it is cheap entertainment. It also is a sign of the 'shift', we've been reading their blogs respectively for close to 2 years now (give or take) and like anything else change will always happen.
What or who will ultimately win between this is more a matter of who is a better business person? Om has some cash behind him, and a strong database of contacts from his days with Business 2.0. Mike has carved out a name for himself, but at the same time publically made some enemies.

I see GigaOm and Techcrunch as being very different blogs and both sources of different types of news. Readers value the opinions of both Mike and Om, and they are actually good friends.
It is almost impossible to have a high profile in the valley and to not have enemies.

Nik: I agree, they are both different in terms of value props. However, the generic readership is shared, what I am projecting is that of leadership challenge in terms of techno arena. Who will lead ??

sometimes i would like to see TechCrunch slow down just a bit to drive some analysis beyond the new new thing. But i am a big fan of marshall kirkpatrick so i think michael is working on that. conflicts of interest- show me a business with none. i am an industry analyst so i know the drill.
Om is a heavyhitter, sure, but i dont know how the model will evolve.

I would agree Mike's likely doing it on purpose to be controversial and gain readership, but that's so fake. Unfortunately, most people fall for it.

I think they are both good in different ways -- and they belong together :-)
