Riya has some competitors !!
"The Malmö, Sweden, based company Polar Rose. will soon be introducing a Web-based search engine that can find photographs of people by analyzing pictures and identifying faces. The search engine-which will be the first of its kind in the world-is the result of research carried out by Jan Erik Solem at Technology and Society, Malmö University College. He will publicly defend his thesis on Friday, September 29."
Google announced they acquired Neven Vision to help on image object recognition technology for products like Picasa (Riya was rumored to fill this niche too, but apparently they lost the race).
So what will this new incumbant offer ?
Peter,
As we announced in May we are heading in a different direction because users just didn't want face recognition in their own photos as much as they wanted smarter web search. Starting next week and continuing for the next month or so we'll post the gradual release of our new product that reluanches our efforts.
I saw Polar Rose but there aren't that many details so I don't know if they are going to compete with our old product or our new product.
Do you know?
