UPS Creating the Biggest Hub !!

I was busy, and could not cut this exciting news.

UPS is planning a major expansion of its Worldport air cargo hub at Louisville International Airport.According to sources at UPS, the $1 billion expansion will add a reported 1,200 full-time and 3,700 part-time jobs to the facility. [ Via :Courier-Journal].

This move will  add $750million to the area's economy in the form of new paychecks, car sales and dinners out.

This is the ramp up for the whole expansion programme from the Far East. Along with their 8 A308 long range frieght planes and the increasing flight schedules from china  to United States -- UPS is gearing up to the watch words "UPS will be the ground contoller of Corporate America's goods" !! :)-

Sidebar : UPS will close out thier operations Stockton Metropolitan Airport . This indicates that Long haul AirCargo will be streamed towards worldhub only !!

No Mr.Brown, you can't use the Sheild and logo just like that !! You maybe a running candiadate with political clout, but that does not mean a thing !! 210088137490

Urban County Council candidate George Brown can't use "Brown" -- the nickname for United Parcel Service -- to promote his run for an at-large seat, according to UPS, reports the Lexington Herald.

I certainly think that he is infringments of Copyrights and diffently not in "fair use" !!

Foster Parent and UPS

For the past 17 years, UPS supervisor Gary Ford of Yukon, Okla., has been a foster parent to more than 20 foster children, including children with severe disabilities. He never dreamed that experience would lead him on the road he's traveled.

Ford's calling to foster care came after a personal medical scare in the late 1970s when doctors discovered bone cancer in a leg. Miraculously, the bone cancer disappeared and Ford took this as a blessing. He had to find out why he was spared.

In addition to Ford's good works, UPS employees from across the country have compelling stories of volunteerism in their communities. Other finalists for the 2006 Casey Award were:

  • Greg Winfield, South Holland, Ill.
  • Naheed Mir, Elk Grove Village, Ill.
  • Mark Norman, Louisville, Ky.
  • He Jinchang, Guangzhou, China
  • Regis Mahoney, Mahwah, N.J.
  • Patrick Gray, Spokane, Wash.
  • Dexter Scott, Philadelphia
  • Jim Smith, Paterson, N.J.
  • Wayne Smith, Vallejo, Calif.
  • Sonya Owens, Louisville, Ky.
  • Johnnie Sloan, Tallevast, Fla.

anything said there stayed there !!

The International Compliance Professionals Association (ICPA) held its third annual conference March 6-9 and …  attendees… were treated to a series of expert presentations and opportunities to exchange best practices and war stories.  All activities were conducted with the understanding that "anything said there stayed there. Information in this worthwhile organization is available at www.icpainc.org.

The confidentiality issue came up about 10 years ago under a kind of reverse import clearance proposal with the United Kingdom. The customs authorities of each country would act in behalf of the other, and a pilot program was established for volunteer participants. This arrangement sounded logical at first. Who besides Canada (which actually tracks our exports by exchanging its import data with us), could we better trust than the UK to honor a gentleman's agreement? One problem that came to mind was how such data could have been limited to the UK. What data-sharing arrangements exist among European Union states?

CornField Issues !!

Ottawa moved closer yesterday to a trade war with Washington over U.S. farm subsidies that could see long-term tariffs on grain corn imports (importers be warned it could be $1.47 a bushel) -- A measure opponents warn could drive up the cost of everything from tortilla chips to livestock feed. Critics caution it could prompt a backlash from the U.S. government and lead to retaliatory tariffs on Canadian products.

Canadian hog and cattle farmers could be among those hit hardest if Ottawa doesn't change course

US-Oman free trade agreement !!

This is interesting, I picked it up on my  alerts system.  On Monday 6th 2006- in Washington - the Senate Finance trade subcommittee hearing on US-Oman free trade agreement.

If this goes thru and US and Oman cut a free trade agreement. It will be great for Oman. Right now they are being levied a high rate of duties for the their products. Trust me, they make some darn good stuff there. I worked there and in fact the other day I was eating nabil biscuits too !!

Gee... I wonder how Omzest will do , they cetainly have leverage and can be a major exporter to the North America's !!

US Ports at Risk ??

"But on the other hand, two of the 9/11 hijackers came from the UAE. UAE was one of only three countries in the world that recognized the Taliban before 9/11. It was a trans-shipment point for the nuclear smuggling network that ultimately got components to Iran and North Korea and Libya. So this should cause concern"

Dubai Port Authority is one of the best managed group in the world in terms of FTZ and Ports. However, US is handing the managment of their Ports directly into the hands of a another country.

Why does not America outsource the Governement , Army, Navy and Airforce too , while at it !!

Katerina and RFID

On Aug 8th DHS actually enabled RFID technologies to track visitors to the US. I made note of this here

I actually have an idea here for Disaster efforts.

1) All Evacuees from an area to be handed a simple plastic pouch. This should contain a Form X- , instruction sheet to fill in the form and a pen /pencil enclosed.

2) This pouch could be given as they enter onto a bus, plane or what not.  All Personnel should fill in the form which contains basic core information like name, age, sex, address  etc etc.

3) When the personnel reach the Center  for relief. the RFID tag on the form is activated. The Data on the sheet is entered into a computer system and a reader now can monitor the presence (e.g Astro Dome).

What I jotted down here is a simple hypothesis and viable method to help in Relief work. The idea can be expanded from MicroContent into a whole new ball of wax , I think !!

I just thought that DHS is spending so much $$$ on tracking visitors within the states as part of a high risk security initiative. What stops them from implementation the same technology for disaster relief ??

After all is not,  Homeland Security mandate is to serve and protect the people ??

Udpate : RFID are being used to tag Katrina victims !!
