The CARA-ADC (the Canadian Creators Rights Alliance), has assembled a team of people from the art world, the technology world, and the legal world, to create an event designed to build conversations between people in different sectors. They called this event Copy Camp
What I don't like about this event is that they have jumped onto the bandwagon of bar camp , but without the "unconference notion". I say this because, the participants need to fork out $700/- for the camp. Woot Woot ?? thats a hecka lot of money even for the creative spirit. I remember paying $350/- for the Meshcon in Toronto. The event creators also indicate this "or applying to have your spot paid for (recommended for artists and other "creators"). "
Ok, I wanna go...who will pay for me ?? I am --after all a "creator" too -correct ?? Ok, Ok--I want to recommend somebody who is an artist and is pretty poor-- how do I do that ?
Chris sez :"Sounds to me a bit like history repeating — but in the end, I’d love to see both models succeed" and also asks the question: "So, one last thing: I wonder what the license for reuse of the CopyCamp mark is… "
Hey Chris- Remember , transparency and community is what makes the camps thrive - not just copycat camp style theoracy type of event and yes, I agree the foocamp type of aurgements are in the making. Btw , from what I read of the Copymark mark its "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 License. "
Update : Misha Glouberman said "The idea behind our pricing is to charge the people who can afford to be there, and use the money to fund the people who can’t."
Update : I can't wait to really see the lineup and how many people who apply for a subsidy, really get chosen, this is interesting space to watch.
